The Iggy Pop Triceratops Ring

Call Now To Enquire
BACK TO BLOGS

What happens when punk-rock history, prehistoric sculpture and fine jewellery come together?

One of our clients acquired an extraordinary ring associated with Iggy Pop. Made in 18-carat gold, the ring takes the form of a beautifully sculpted Triceratops, complete with vivid ruby eyes and Iggy’s name inscribed beneath it.

The fascinating story accompanying the piece is that Iggy Pop—who is also an accomplished artist—helped with the creation of a Triceratops for the Jurassic Park film set. It is said that a small number of these gold Triceratops rings were subsequently made to commemorate that unusual connection and given to people within his circle.

Our client wanted more than an ordinary jewellery box in which to display such a remarkable piece. We were commissioned to create a miniature Triceratops skeleton that could serve as a bespoke ring stand.

The finished skeleton transformed the ring into part of a complete sculptural display. When placed upon it, the gold Triceratops appears almost to be reunited with its prehistoric bones.

It was a wonderfully unusual commission, bringing together music, cinema, palaeontology and traditional craftsmanship—and demonstrating that even the most unexpected idea can inspire a unique piece of silverwork.

At Mayfair Goldsmiths, we specialise in turning personal stories, treasured objects and imaginative ideas into bespoke pieces designed and made by hand in our London workshop.
